On the Path of the Sleeping Elephant

A sleeping elephant in the forest?
Yes, such a thing exists. You just have to open your eyes to discover it.

When you set out to discover the beauty of nature, it is quite possible that you will do just that. You simply have to keep your eyes open and not just walk straight ahead, but look to the left and right.

I didn’t see it the first time. Perhaps because the moss growth wasn’t as thick yet. But yesterday was different.
I discovered it. The “Path with the Sleeping Elephant.”

This is where the path begins for me. Right at the start. Pure nature.

The gateway to another world – Bye Bye Rat Race

It is remarkable what is presented to us as a wonder of nature. But are they truly wonders or perhaps signs? That depends entirely on the eye of the beholder.

When I decided that we would give up the apartment in downtown Munich and I acquired a consulting van, it was clear to me: Everything will be different here. My house, my car, my boat on Lake Constance, my swimming pool? Not here.

Here, it is more like my motorhome, my small car, my air mattress on the swimming pond. Simply quite different, but much more satisfying at the same time.

After all, what do we actually work for? For these very material things. Trapped in the rat race of consumption. But does that make us happy, or is it just “fake happiness”? For me, the answer is clearer than ever.

That is why I haven’t regretted for a single minute breaking out of the rat race in which most people are trapped. It is worth it!

And when I discovered this “gate” yesterday, which wasn’t there the last time I took this path, I knew that I was now passing through into another world.

Am I about to step through the gateway to “another world”?

Which goals are truly worth it?

When do you actually ask yourself this question? You set goals for yourself—for example, a vacation in Dubai, in a 5-star all-inclusive hotel. You can do that once in a while. But always? Every year?

What if your own children have never seen a cow in person, played in the dirt, or think that mushrooms only exist in the supermarket’s produce section or on a pizza? Is that a goal worth striving for? To know nothing? To think and act only in a consumer-oriented way?

Yesterday, I set a goal for myself: to hike alone for 3 hours. To experience nature. To be exhausted at the end. To fall into bed happy and content. Goal achieved.

The well-known saying “The journey is the reward” was thus truer than ever for me yesterday.

At the summit. Just ONE of the many rewards for my effort.

Discovering beauty is also possible without digital media

Let’s be honest. When was the last time you held a paper map in your hand? When did you hike using only tree markings? Or was it the smartphone with GPS tracking and a digital map after all?

Everything has its time. But those who make the mistake of only looking at their smartphone while hiking will never make real discoveries.

So, just go back to nature and back to analog or manual systems. This is the only way to find yourself again and focus on what is essential.

Completely without Google Maps. With a paper map and markings on the trees.

Conclusion

Work and life do not have to be in conflict with each other. Focusing on the essentials at the right time is relevant here.
Those who go through life with open eyes and hearts may also discover their “Path of the Sleeping Elephant.”

Tip: The world and its beauty are not found in front of a monitor, but only in nature.

Further impressions from the other world that is just around the corner.

You do not have to know every mushroom, but that one was a great one. That is why I left it where it belongs.
(No idea what kind it was anyway, but that can be a worthwhile goal.)

When life emerges again from what was thought to be dead.

Just let nature do its thing.

Looking “up,” you can see where nature ends and humans do strange things!
