Discovering Freedom: New Work and New Life in Harmony
In today’s fast-paced world, I longed for a more balanced lifestyle that combines freedom, adventure, and profession. After a prolonged illness and 40 kg lighter, at the age of 55 you also ask yourself what life still has to offer and quickly realize that it’s up to you.
No one comes to the “rescue,” no one makes you “happy,” and material things like “my house, my boat, my car” are not a foundation for finding true fulfillment in life.
As a digitalization consultant, I recognized that my expertise in the digital world offered me an amazing opportunity: to do my job independently of a fixed office. Not just as a “home office” consultant due to external constraints.
Thus began my search for an extraordinary lifestyle that would combine my passion for consulting and my love of nature.

My Garden, Small but Fine
The Transformation to Mobile Digitalization Consultant
I decided to sell my possessions and acquire a motorhome that would become my new home and mobile office. With a strong focus on efficiency and digitalization, I optimized my workflows. Cloud tools, online meetings, and digital project management platforms became my trusted companions, while I assured my clients that the quality of my work would not suffer under the new lifestyle.
Quite the contrary. A balanced, happy, and satisfied consultant brings far more positives to a digitalization project than a stressed, materially driven “manager type” in the “hamster wheel.”
The switch to mobile consulting brought challenges, but it also opened up unique opportunities. I realized that I could not only work effectively but also better manage my time and energy. Between client projects, I used the free hours to explore nearby forests, enjoy the beauty of nature, and find new inspiration. The boundaries between work and leisure began to blur, leading to a fulfilling sense of life.

Every Camper Needs Their Own Flag!
The Adventure at the Forest Campground
Driven by my curiosity and the desire to gather new experiences, I chose a remote campground in the Palatinate forest as my new home. Surrounded by green nature, away from the hectic city scene (previously Munich city center), I can unleash my creativity and develop innovative solutions for my clients. The idyllic environment promotes my mental clarity and helps me develop fresh ideas that I bring into my consulting projects.
Life at the campground also brings me closer to other nature enthusiasts. In the evenings around the campfire or during shared hiking and grilling, I could exchange ideas with people who shared similar values and lifestyles. This social network not only provides a welcome change but also leads to new professional opportunities and collaborations.
I quickly recognized that the “Humanus Campingplatzus” is not the much-maligned failure, but quite the opposite, a person who has recognized what is truly important in life.
I have already had more conversations with neighbors here, have been invited and invited others more often, etc., than in 23 years in my apartment in Munich.
The helpfulness, interest, and kindness that I encounter here simply blew me away. Nothing, absolutely nothing, pulls me back to Munich or any other city.

Challenges and Success Stories
Of course, this unconventional lifestyle also brought challenges. Internet connection difficulties, weather adversities, or limited storage space in the motorhome were just some of the hurdles I had to overcome. But through adaptability and determination, I overcame these obstacles and gathered a wealth of unforgettable experiences.
Anyone who has experienced heavy rain in a motorhome, for example, knows what nature is again. You are simply very close to the real and, for me, important events everywhere here.
What began as a daring experiment developed into an impressive success. I was appreciated by clients and colleagues alike for my professionalism and innovative approach. Even though I’m not a fan of ego topics, I must admit that almost everywhere I spoke about my new way of life and work, I was met with almost envy.
Many comments like “that’s brave” or “I would like to do that too” reward my decision to motivate others to do the same.

Final Thoughts: The Art of Balancing Freedom and Responsibility
Life as a mobile digitalization consultant at a forest campground is an inspiring story of freedom and self-realization. I have proven that it is possible to leverage the advantages of modern technology while establishing a deep connection to nature. The fusion of “New Work” and “New Life” enabled me to live my passion for consulting in a unique and fulfilling way.
This example shows that success does not always have to be achieved through traditional career paths. By daring to act outside the comfort zone and breaking conventional boundaries, one can create a lifestyle that maximizes not only professional success but also personal happiness.
Although this life is certainly not suitable for everyone, we should be inspired by my story to redefine the balance between work and life. Perhaps we can all learn a little from this courageous mobile digitalization consultant and integrate a touch of “New Work” and “New Life” into our own life paths.
Anyone who likes my NewLife and NewWork path and also wants to benefit from my know-how, methods, and tools in their own digitalization project is welcome to schedule a free initial consultation.
